Improvements to Postwick Interchange

The Postwick Interchange is already congested and acts as a severe constraint to the delivery of future development and growth as identified by the Greater Norwich Development Partnership.

Norfolk County Council is currently preparing a detailed business case for improvement of the Postwick Interchange with a view to securing community infrastructure fund (CIF) support of £19million from the Government. The project was shortlisted for CIF support in July and final allocations will be made in the New Year. The proposed road improvements will unlock this barrier and enable sustainable growth for the area. For further details see the Infrastructure Plan.

Public Transport

Broadland Way is currently served by bus route 17/17A, linking South Tuckswood with Norwich City Centre, including the main bus and railway stations. In the morning peak, there are four buses per hour.

  • A new bus stop and shelter will be provided on both carriageways of Broadland Way, just south of the proposed new toucan crossing.
  • We will appoint a Travel Plan Coordinator who, in conjunction with the bus operators, will play a major part in promoting the increased use of bus services. We will encourage bus operators to provide further routes through the site as demand increases.
  • Travel information will be provided to occupiers along with car-sharing schemes and other sustainable transport options.
  • Seek to enhance existing shuttle bus services between the Broadland Business Area and Norwich City Centre.

Access

BroadLand Gate will be accessed from a roundabout off the proposed new road which forms the north boundary of the site. Another point of access to the site will be at the existing access location on Broadland Way.

Pedestrian and Cycle Routes

Improvements to the existing walking, cycling and public transport routes will significantly enhance connectivity in and around our proposed development.

Walking and cycling can play a central role in reducing single occupancy vehicular trips. As seen in the Infrastructure Plan all internal cycle and pedestrian routes have been carefully masterplanned to link in to the existing wider Norwich network.

Improvements to the limited number of facilities presently available include:

  • Provision of a 3 metre shared footpath / cycleway along the new internal roads.
  • A new toucan crossing on Broadland Way will provide a convenient and safe cycle and pedestrian crossing, linking the Broadland Business Area to the facilities within the proposed new business village.
  • Construction of a new footway forming a continuous link between the new development and Peachman Way.
